My Brother's Keeper

 This short story takes place in Jamaica and it focuses on the relationship of a family and their dynamic. The short story centers around love between siblings and how they develop their connection. At first the first born son misses his father, and he is sad and feeling very down. Soon though, he is surprised with the fact that he has a half brother. Loss can be so dooming, and it can cause many people to feel despair. However, he is soon uplifted with the fact that he will gain a family member. This gives a bright spot for the main character to gain a new bright light in his life. It was hard at first though because the two had to deal with jealousy, but by the end the two bond and find the love that they had been missing while dealing with the loss of their father. 

    In the story I found this sibling relationship to be quite interesting. I have never experienced anything like what the half brothers in the story have but I can only imagine that it would be extremely tough. I believe that tragedy can either really bring people together or it can drive them apart. In most cases, when the people are already separated like in this story, it really makes you think about what you have. This was the case here, and thankfully the two brothers bonded on the memories of their father and let it bring them together rather than driving them even further apart due to their jealousy.

 Frank Collymore's "Some People are Meant to Live Alone", is an interesting short read that focuses in on the conversation and relationship of a child and his Uncle Arthur. Uncle Arthur is older and lives by himself. When his Nephew comes to him and asks him, if he feels like he ever gets lonely, his response is a puzzling one. He says that he never gets truly lonely and that, " Some people are meant to live alone.". In this instance it seems as if Uncle Arthur almost admits to being somewhat lonely, while trying to defend his own situation. By saying some people are meant to be lonely, it shows a sort of fixed mindset. He comes off as someone who deserves pity and he seems almost content with being lonely.
